A passion for flavour

Occupying a 10,000 square foot, AA Grade BRC Accredited factory where a 12-ton capacity smoking plant operates continually, Besmoke is innovation-led. Our unique, custom-built chambers are designed on the principles of traditional natural draft smoke chambers but with a modern and scientific approach; one which makes them efficient and safe.
In 2016 Besmoke commissioned two new PureSmoke ingredients processors, one for liquids and one for dry ingredients.  We received a European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development Grant from Sussex Downs & Coastal Plain LEADER to design and build the plant which encompass the innovations arising from our PureSmoke Technology developments.
Our highly trained production staff is committed to delivering the finest smoked products. Each batch is process controlled and fully quality checked to meet our exacting standards of flavour and safety, whether that’s 100kg or industrial scale.
For adding value to established product lines to expand SKUs or developing clean label barbeque and smoked products, Besmoke has the knowledge, technology and attention to detail to make it happen.

Huw Griffiths


Huw founded Besmoke in 2004 when he began smoking garlic for local Brighton delicatessens from his back garden. An instant best seller, larger premises beckoned – to keep up with demand and feed his thirst for new product development and innovation. The Smoke Professor was born. Based on those traditional principles of natural draft smoking, Besmoke has since developed its original processing technology to offer the safest naturally smoked ingredients on the market.

Passionate about food and smoke, Huw is a member of the British Society of Flavourists and has lectured on the topic of smoke flavour along with Dr David Baines. Working together since 2012, Dr Baines’ and Huw’s collaboration with University of Reading’s Flavour Centre has resulted in a groundbreaking new process… PureSmoke™.

Flavour chemist, food scientist, inventor and past Chairman of the British Society of Flavourists, Dr Baines is a world leading authority on flavour chemistry and food safety. With extensive experience in research and development, a passion for flavour and altruistic integrity, Dr Baines’ collaboration with Huw provided him with the opportunity to put his wealth of expertise into a cutting-edge new development – PureSmoke Technology.
